  • What is a cataract?

    A cataract is a yellowing and clouding of the natural crystalline lens which is typically caused by the natural aging of the body. Patients who have been on certain medications or higher levels of sun exposure can develop cataracts sooner. Although everyone develops cataracts throughout the normal aging process.

  • How does this affect my vision?

    A cataract scatters light in the eye and makes it harder for patients to see clearly. Patients will commonly present with a requirement of change of prescription, feeling of dirty glasses all the time that can never be cleaned or increased glare, especially at night.

  • How are cataracts treated?

    The only way to fix the problem of the cataract is to surgically remove it. The surgery is day surgery, is done while the patient is awake and only requires topical numbing drops.
