Dry Eye Procedures.

  • Intense Pulse Light Therapy.

Intense pulse light therapy (IPL) involves specific wavelength light that targets inflammation the eyelids. The specific 500nm light helps shrink small inflammatory vessels, kill bacteria, liquify oil and dilate the glands.

Previously IPL was used on rosacea skin conditions but it was discovered that these patients subsequently had improved dry eyes.

This treatment is best for patients with MGD or rosacea. A coupling gel is placed to protect the skin. Symptoms will improve after the first treatment but will need to be repeated a few times over the year.

  • LipiFlow®

LipiFlow® is an instrument that warms the inner eyelids and mechanically excretes the oil glands in the eyelids. The instrument is placed on the eye and sandwiches the eyelids.

This procedure will have to be done a few times over the year depending on severity of symptoms and is an effective treatment for MGD.

  • Radio Frequency.

This procedure uses radio waves to produce heat and liquify the oil in the oil glands. This makes the glands more are easily expressible and helps them to unclog.

An added benefit of radio frequency is the heat stimulates natural production of collagen. This in return makes the skin more elastic, and is used to help treat fine lines and wrinkles.
